Review of the guide

More than the description of just one route (the GR 221), the publication is the description of a net of marked routes in the Val d'Aran. It includes the description of the GR 211 with its variants (GR 211-1, 2, 3, 4 i 5), as well as the routes of the PR-C 111, 112, 113, 114, 115 i 115-1. All together, abaut 295 km of marked routes.

The route has been divided in sections that, theoretically, can be made in one day (between 15 and 25 km), with beginning and end in places where public transport is easy to find (train, bus). Each card is a section of the route with a map (a piece of a map of the ICC scale 1:50.000, with the route overprinted), a description of the route (with distances in time and km) and a profile of the grounds.

The GR 211 is the central route around which the net is built, a net built during the year 2000. The variant GR 211-1 offers an alternative to the other route by the bottom of the valley from Gessa to Era Bordeta; the variant GR 211-2, that goes from Les to Pontaut by Bausen; the variant GR 211-3, that gives an alternative to the long route in its ascension to the Comes de Liat from the refuge Dera Honeria; and the variants GR 211-4 and GR 211-5, that link the GR 211 and the GR 11 in two points (in the Pòrt de Ratera de Colomèrs, and in the southern entrance of the Viella tunnel), what allows the ampliation of the given net with a section of the GR 11 between those two points.

Before the description, there is a section with interesting information for the walker: security in the mountain, basic rules of behaviour in nature, general suggestions, using the guide and marking. This section is complemented with a general map with the situation of the routes and a summary of them.

In the section of general information about the Val d'Aran, there are texts about its history, vegetation, fauna, the Romanesque style, the language of the Val d'Aran and about the river Garona. There are, also, a card for every village by which the route goes by (interesting information, telephone numbers, etc) and about the refuges of the valley.
