GREEN MERIDIAN ROUTE
(Ruta del Meridià Verd)
Route by foot and mountain bike
Dunkerque - Paris - Barcelona
Section:
From the PYRENEES [Col of the Pal (Setcases)] to the MEDITERRANEAN SEA [Ocata beach (El Masnou)]

MAP

Thematic route that goes on by the vertical line of the Parisian meridian, that begins in Dunkerque and ends in Barcelona (el Masnou).

On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the measuring of this meridian (the base of the Decimal Metrical System), France and Catalonia agreed to call it The Green Meridian, and they also agreed about the creation of a marked route suitable to be covered by foot or by bicycle.

France decided to plant several trees to remind people this meridian. The problem is that this way has not been marked yet. In Catalonia, this marking has been done by now and the Green Meridian can be covered by foot and by bicycle.

This route begins in the Col of the Pal. Nearby, there is the bivouac-refuge of Costabona (18 beds) of the FEEC.

Marks:

Vertical
Black p
ost-signs made of recicled material, a plaque with a directional arrow. Those signs, of 70/80 cm high, are place in strategical places or where it is not possible to paint. In the Natural Park of El Montseny and in the Natural Park of Serralada Litoral, those signs have been substituted by others as those that can be found in both areas.

Horitzontal
Green directional arrow painted during the route in places like stones, trees, etc. Inside villages, cities, towns and natural parks, the mark is a sticker.

In those places where there is the need to show which is not the good way, there is a green cross painted.
