International Marching League - Walking Association (IML-WA

he IML-WA is an organisation that makes an annual walking calendar (IML) that take place all over the world. Those walks have some common characteristics and a web-defined quality levels. Its aim is to spread the wealthy benefits of walking in the society. 

The organisations of the IML foresees, in Europe, that there will only be one walk included in the IML-calendar for each state. 
    
The Associació Caminada Internacional de Barcelona, together with the Ajuntament de Barcelona, began in 2003 the needed negotiations in order that the ACIB could be in the IML-WA and, also, in order that the International Walk of Barcelona could be included in the IML-WA calendar and, by doing this, to promote its diffusion all over the world. 

By June 2005, the ACIB, with the support of the Ajuntament de Barcelona, achieved the established requirements, and it sent its admission proposal to the General Secretary of the IML-WA in order that the International Walk of Barcelona could be included in the agenda of the Annual Assembly of the organisation. 

The IML-WA sent an invitation to the ACIB to officially introduce its proposal to the Assembly of 2005, that took place in Fulda (Germany), in September 29th and 30th. A delegation from Barcelona (with two members of the ACIB –Enric Francès and Josep M. Jerez_ and three members of the Institut Barcelona Esports of the Ajuntament de Barcelona –Gabriel Arranz, Laura Peña, and Joan Garcia- went to the Assembly in Fulda. 

During this Assembly, the ACIB introduced its proposal to become a member of the IML-WA. By the end of the Assembly, the General Secretary of the IML-WA communicated to the Catalan delegation that its proposal was accepted to be processed and that, from that moment on, the previously established procedure should be followed in order that the ACIB could be a member and that the International Walk of Barcelona could be included in its calendar. The next steps were as following: 

2006.- Two delegates from the IML-WA came to the International Walk of Barcelona. They wrote a favourable report about the walk and its organisation. Even though this, and because of non-clear reasons, the General Assembly of 2006 in Vancouver (USA) postponed its decision for the next year. Two members of the ACIB (Enric Francès and Josep M. Jerez) and one member of the Institut Barcelona Esports (Laura Peña) participated in this assembly. 

2007.- Another two delegates of the IML-WA came to the International Walk of Barcelona. They wrote a new favourable report about the walk and its organisation. This report could be presented in the General Assembly of 2007 that took place in Arenzano (Italy) in September 6th and 7th. The delegation from Barcelona was made of two members of the ACIB (Enric Francès and Josep M. Jerez) and two members of the Institut Barcelona Esports, of the Ajuntament de Barcelona (Gabriel Arranz and Laura Peña). 

This assembly approved the proposal and the ACIB became a member of the IML-WA. The International Walk of Barcelona was included in the IML calendar in the same year 2007.
